Baker Donelson's office in Johnson City opened in 1984 with four attorneys serving the legal needs of businesses throughout the Tri-Cities region of northeast Tennessee – Johnson City, Kingsport and Bristol. The office is currently home to about a dozen lawyers.

For more than 20 years, our team in Johnson City has been known for its strength in labor and employment law. Our team is also strong in commercial litigation, tort litigation and corporate transactions, including secured transactions. Our Johnson City office is also home to a thriving aviation transactions practice.

Situated 30 miles from Tennessee's borders with Virginia and North Carolina, 50 miles from Kentucky and 100 miles from South Carolina, the office is positioned to meet the legal needs of businesses in these states and has lawyers licensed in each of them.

Our Johnson City team is committed to giving back to the communities we serve through pro bono legal service. Lawyers in the office are active supporters of Legal Aid of East Tennessee.

Legal Support Coordinator - Johnson City, TN

Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell, & Berkowitz, PC has an opening for a Legal Support Coordinator in its Johnson City, TN office.  Ideal candidate will have 3+ years of legal experience; have administrative experience, exceptional communication and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively within a group or independently.  Candidate should be proficient in MS Word (high priority), Outlook and Excel and type a minimum of 65 words per minute with high accuracy. This position will support several attorneys. The candidate should be detail oriented and able to work well in a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Prioritizing and executing tasks quickly and accurately
  • Formatting and setting up documents including pleadings, briefs, correspondence, and other legal documents
  • Prepare shell documents for attorneys in preparation of discovery, orders, motions, and trial documents
  • Filing litigation documents with state and federal courts – knowledge of electronic filing is required
  • Excellent proofreading skills
  • Update and maintain files in a timely manner
  • Time entry, processing client bills, conducting client conflict checks, transcribing dictation
  • Maintain calendars with litigation dates and deadlines as well as other necessary dates
  • Reviewing vendor invoices and requesting checks for payment in a timely manner
  • Assisting attorneys and paralegals in preparation for hearings, mediations, arbitrations, trials

Financial Services Associate – All Offices (Charlotte or Raleigh, NC preferred) (#790)

Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, P.C. seeks a mid-level associate with four or more years of debt finance experience to join its thriving Financial Services Transaction practice. Specific experience representing lenders and borrowers on leveraged finance transactions, including drafting and negotiating credit agreements, intercreditor agreements, security agreements and other primary loan documents, as well as managing transaction closings and supervising junior associates and paralegals is preferred. Experience with mezzanine finance or other private credit funds is a plus. Privacy Counseling Associate – All Offices (Atlanta, Baltimore, Houston, Nashville, New Orleans, Raleigh, Washington, D.C. Preferred) (#791)

Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, P.C. seeks a mid-level associate with two or more years of experience in privacy law to join its thriving Data Protection, Privacy and Cybersecurity Team. The associate will advise clients on emerging privacy considerations and issues, draft policies and data protection addendum, and provide general privacy counseling. Specific experience in one or more of the following areas: consumer privacy; ad tech and related privacy concerns, comprehensive state privacy laws, such as the CCPA; federal privacy laws, such as GLBA, FCRA, COPPA, and the FTC Act; health information privacy (including human subjects research); and state laws (CCPA, CMIA, Washington My Health My Data Act, Nevada SB 370) health care privacy laws; artificial intelligence laws (CO AI Act, EU AI Act); and international data transfer, privacy and localization laws and regimes, such as the EU’s GDPR. The ideal candidate should have experience drafting privacy policies, negotiating privacy-related contracts and data processing agreements (BAAs, DPAs, DUAs), providing product counseling, and conducting privacy compliance assessments.
