Trey Range concentrates his practice on aviation law. He has assisted clients in a wide range of aviation deals in North America, Asia, and Europe, including everything from charter service contracts for rotor wing and fixed-wing aircraft to purchase agreements and related structuring for first-time owners and experienced owners and operators of new and pre-owned aircraft.

Mr. Range has significant experience representing Part 91 and Part 135 operators, buyers, sellers, lessors, and lessees in aircraft leases and purchases. He also has experience representing lenders in aviation finance transactions and partnering with all types of aviation businesses, including maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities; aircraft leasing and financing companies; aircraft management companies; and aircraft parts manufacturers and sellers.

  • Spearheaded transactions and coordinated with local counsel regarding aviation, secured asset and tax issues for operating and financing leases and purchase and sale agreements for fixed wing aircraft and helicopters around the world, including Australia, New Zealand, England, Spain, France, Italy, Indonesia, Brazil, Malaysia, Nigeria, India, East Timor, Taiwan, Chile, Peru, and the Philippines.

  • Assisted dozens of domestic entities (including family offices and small businesses) in aircraft purchases, sales, leases, and regulatory compliance.

  • Orchestrated several complex sale-leaseback transactions involving $20 million+ aircraft, including tracking the aircraft to coordinate closing in international airspace for tax purposes.

  • Represented financial institutions across the country in the origination and securitization of commercial loans involving a variety of pledged collateral types, including airplanes, helicopters, and spare engines.

  • Assisted litigation colleagues in enforcing rights under secured aircraft loans and leases.

  • Drafted a complex master lease agreement and subordinate lease schedules to facilitate the leasing of several aircraft worth approximately $30 million to an operator in Asia.

  • Handled several sophisticated M&A transactions on behalf of target entities and acquirers.

  • Advised an aircraft components manufacturer on a license agreement with a major OEM.

  • Negotiated new terms for aircraft parts OEM and its global suppliers and distributors.

  • Represented a large helicopter operator in several transactions to provide dedicated transportation services to major oil companies in Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, and the Gulf.
