Matthew Gissendanner

Matt Gissendanner is of counsel in Baker Donelson's Columbia office and a member of the Advocacy Department. Mr. Gissendanner leverages his extensive experience as in-house counsel at a regulated utility to counsel clients in the energy industry on matters involving regulatory and compliance issues.

Professional Biography


Mr. Gissendanner, an engineer by training, represents energy companies before the state public service commission in electric and gas proceedings involving base rate increases, fuel recovery, siting, integrated resource plans, territorial assignment, demand side management and energy efficiency programs, net energy metering programs, avoided costs, code of conduct matters, competitive procurement, regulated transactions, transportation electrification, and customer complaints.

In addition, he advises companies regarding federal natural gas pipeline safety regulations and has transactional experience negotiating matters ranging from franchise agreements to interconnection agreements and renewable power purchase agreements.

Prior to joining Baker Donelson, Mr. Gissendanner served for 14 years as in-house counsel at a Fortune 500 utility. He also served as a judicial clerk for the Hon. Karen J. Williams, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
