Professional Biography

Tom Hooper represents clients in complex litigation in state and federal trial and appellate courts, including in cases involving business, insurance, and financial services disputes. He has years of experience litigating cases involving a wide variety of contract, tort, and statutory claims.

In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Hooper represents clients in arbitration proceedings.

Defended a financial institution in first case in which the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit squarely addressed the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) preemption of state-law claims.
Represented a private energy supplier in a putative multi-state class action.
Represented insurers in litigation concerning coverage under commercial general liability, life, and title insurance policies.
Represented lenders in connection with commercial and consumer non-judicial foreclosure proceedings and in multi-million dollar actions to recover on secured and unsecured commercial notes and guaranties.
Represented commercial landlords in landlord-tenant disputes.
Represented partners and joint venturers in partnership and venture litigation and arbitration.
Represented businesses in merger-and-acquisition-related litigation and arbitration.
Represented a national department store chain, transportation logistics company, and a furniture retailer in various franchisor-franchisee lawsuits and arbitration proceedings.
