Riley maintains an active litigation practice in state and federal courts throughout the country, and his practical experience runs the gamut. Riley represents a wide range of clients from investors, financial institutions, and lenders to manufacturers, refineries, and construction companies. As a former Special Assistant Attorney General, he defended Louisiana laws and agencies from a host of constitutional challenges. In short, Riley's background allows him to engage at the national level while maintaining a cost-effective New Orleans rate.
Before joining Baker Donelson, Riley clerked for Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and for Judge Martin L.C. Feldman of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. In a prior stint with a top Delaware firm, Riley represented directors and companies in cases involving a host of corporate issues, including mergers and acquisitions, shareholder demands, fiduciary duties, and appraisal and inspection rights. In law school, Riley was the executive editor of the Notre Dame Law Review. His legal commentary has been cited in courts, casebooks, and journals such as the Virginia Law Review, Duke Law Journal, and Supreme Court Review.
