Baker Donelson has been named a finalist in the Law Firm category of the 2026 American Legal Technology Awards (ALTA) for its role in supporting and advancing the American Bar Association's ABA Free Legal Answers platform. Baker Donelson is one of three law firms selected as finalists in the category.
The ALTA recognize individuals, organizations, and initiatives that are advancing the delivery of legal services through technology. The Law Firm category honors firms that have made meaningful contributions to the legal profession through technology-driven solutions.
Baker Donelson's recognition reflects its longstanding involvement with ABA Free Legal Answers, a virtual legal advice platform that connects income-eligible individuals with volunteer attorneys who provide brief legal guidance at no cost. George T. "Buck" Lewis, a shareholder in the Firm's Memphis office, has worked closely with the ABA Center for Pro Bono and other stakeholders to help develop and expand the platform. In 2025, Baker Donelson announced a significant financial and technology reinvestment in ABA Free Legal Answers to support the platform's continued growth.
"ABA Free Legal Answers began with a simple idea: use technology to connect people who need legal help with lawyers willing to volunteer their time," said Mr. Lewis. This recognition by ALTA reflects the collective efforts of the ABA, volunteer lawyers, legal aid organizations, courts, and many others who share a commitment to making legal assistance more accessible."
Mr. Lewis is a member of Baker Donelson's Business Litigation Group and represents businesses and individuals in complex commercial disputes, product liability litigation, class actions, and catastrophic injury matters. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has held numerous leadership positions within the American Bar Association, including roles focused on access to justice and the use of technology to expand legal services opportunities. His work with ABA Free Legal Answers reflects a longstanding commitment to public service and improving access to the legal system.
Winners of the 2026 American Legal Technology Awards will be announced at an awards ceremony in Boston on October 25.
