Baker Donelson Adds Veteran Trial Attorney G. Gray Wilson in Growing Winston-Salem Office

G. Gray Wilson has joined the national law firm Baker Donelson as a shareholder in the Firm's Winston-Salem office, continuing to grow the Firm's presence in North Carolina following the office's opening in December 2025.

Mr. Wilson brings decades of experience defending health care providers, professionals, and businesses in complex, high-exposure litigation. His practice focuses on professional liability and medical malpractice matters involving catastrophic injury, wrongful death, and significant damages claims. He is particularly known for defending physicians, surgeons, and medical practices across high-risk specialties. More recently, he has been involved in numerous business disputes representing defendants as well as plaintiffs.

"As a trial attorney who has served as lead counsel in hundreds of cases, Gray brings exceptional depth of experience to our litigation bench," said Paul J. Foley, office managing shareholder of Baker Donelson's Winston-Salem office. "We are focused on continuing to build this office and expanding our capabilities in North Carolina with top legal talent, and Gray's leadership and longstanding reputation in the region are an ideal fit for our strategic growth."

Mr. Wilson is regularly entrusted with matters requiring an understanding of complex medical and technical issues, extensive expert testimony, and sustained jury trials. He has successfully defended matters involving allegations of diagnostic failures, surgical complications, and standards‑of‑care disputes, often in cases seeking multimillion‑dollar recoveries. Clients and insurers rely on his disciplined trial strategy and ability to present sophisticated defenses clearly and persuasively to juries.

"I am pleased to join Baker Donelson at a time of such momentum, particularly with the recent establishment of the Winston-Salem office," Mr. Wilson said. "The Firm's collaborative culture, commitment to client service, and long-term investment in this market align well with my practice, and I look forward to contributing to its continued growth across North Carolina."

Mr. Wilson, who was previously with Nelson Mullins, is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys, which has recognized him with the J. Robert Elster Award for Professional Excellence. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America® for Medical Malpractice Law – Defendants and Personal Injury Litigation – Defendants and has also been named The Best Lawyers Medical Malpractice Law – Defendants "Lawyer of the Year" in Winston-Salem. Mr. Wilson's other honors include being named to Business North Carolina's Legal Elite Hall of Fame and recognized by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly with its Power List Award and its Leaders in the Law Award.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Wilson serves as a Forsyth County Commissioner and has held numerous leadership roles with the North Carolina Bar Association and North Carolina State Bar, including having served as president of both. He is also the author of North Carolina Civil Procedure, a two-volume legal treatise now in its fourth edition.

Mr. Wilson earned his J.D. from Duke University School of Law, where he served on the Legal Research Board, and his B.A., cum laude, from Davidson College.
