Baker Donelson Adds Commercial Litigation Veteran Daniel D. Edelman

National law firm Baker Donelson has expanded its leading commercial litigation practice with the addition of Daniel D. Edelman, a seasoned trial lawyer and litigator with a focus on complex commercial disputes, including antitrust litigation, securities and shareholder litigation, trade secret litigation, and employment litigation.

During his 30-year career, Mr. Edelman, who joins as a shareholder, has served as lead counsel in all manner and sizes of commercial litigation – from high-profile multidistrict class actions involving complex statutory causes of action to single-party actions alleging fraud, fiduciary duty, contract, and statutory claims. He has handled all phases of litigation, from pre-complaint investigations to extensive discovery to dispositive motions, jury trials, and appeals. He has extensive practice experience, especially in the federal and state courts of New York.

Marcus M. Maples, chair of Baker Donelson's Commercial Litigation Group, noted, "Through his representation of clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to small family-owned businesses, Dan has established a reputation as a trusted advisor on legal and strategic planning matters. Our clients will benefit from Dan's thorough and creative approach for which he is so well known."

Mr. Edelman's extensive antitrust experience includes major litigation brought under both Sections 1 and 2 of the Sherman Act, as well as Section 7 of the Clayton Act. He also has substantial experience defending against federal securities and state shareholder actions, including those alleged under Sections 10 and 14 of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and Section 11 of the Securities Act of 1933. He has handled various federal and state trade secret misappropriation cases, including those involving preliminary injunction proceedings. Mr. Edelman joins Baker Donelson from Epstein Becker & Green's New York office. Prior to that, he was also a partner at the New York offices of major national firms.

"I've long been acquainted with Baker Donelson's reputation as a firm with an outstanding team of litigators who have extensive trial experience," said Mr. Edelman. "With the Firm's expansion into the Northeast earlier this year, Baker Donelson presented a great opportunity for me to take my practice to an outstanding full-service firm with a national scope."

Mr. Edelman is a member of the American Bar Association's Antitrust Section and previously served as vice chair of that section's Financial Services Committee. He has also served as a member of the New York City Bar Association's Securities Litigation Committee. Mr. Edelman began his career as a federal law clerk to the Honorable Robert J. Ward in the Southern District of New York. He also functioned for a six-month period as a special corporation counsel trying cases on behalf of the City of New York. He earned his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and is a graduate of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where he served as articles editor of the Cardozo Law Review.
