Misclassification of employees as independent contractors or as volunteers can be costly. State and federal agencies have devoted hundreds of agents and millions of dollars towards remedying misclassified employees. Wes Redmond and Eric Coleman will cover the expanding world of employee classifications by answering: Has the Department of Labor sounded the death knell for independent contractors? Are part-time/adjunct professors employees? When are volunteers considered employees? And what is the likelihood of student-athletes being classified as employees in the Anderson litigation? We will also suggest best practices for preventing misclassifications and strategies for avoiding employee classifications.
