Although the June 27, 2011 decision by U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Thrash invalidated certain provisions of Georgia's recently enacted Illegal Immigration Reform and Enforcement Act of 2011, also known as HB 87, key provisions of the law most directly applicable to Georgia employers were upheld. HB 87 requires certain private employers to use the federal E-Verify system to confirm the employment authorization of new hires.

In addition to a brief discussion of the new law, Baker Donelson's Atlanta office business immigration lawyers Bob Johnson and Masae Okura will highlight other business immigration developments relating to the employment of foreign nationals under the H-1B, L-1, E-1/E-2 and other U.S. employment visa categories.
