Our Holistic and Innovative Approach to a Legal Department's Convergence Process

Baker Donelson assisted an international rental car company in their convergence efforts with their business and procurement departments to increase efficiency, enhance communication, and coordinate efforts on deals.

Our in-house team of legal operations professionals developed a solution to facilitate real-time and transparent communication through monthly case management updates, quarterly reports to in-house counsel, matter status reports to management (CIO, COO) on demand, and interface directly with all levels of staff, keeping in-house counsel informed. In addition, we developed a mobile application framework-type system to track the creation and execution of contracts, which included the analysis of their contract review process (including security questionnaire/plan), creation of template contracts, development of standard forms and language for the contracts, and creation of playbooks and checklists. For vendor management, we created a process to vet their vendors (that resulted in cost savings to the client), standardized and categorized their vendor agreements, and conducted vendor management training. For compliance, we identified their compliance issues and ensured GDPR compliance (early action, issue spotting, and coordination with UK counsel). The success of our approach, in collaboration with the seven selected panel firms, has helped the legal department establish itself as an important business partner of the larger organization.
