Baker Donelson Shareholder Craig Holden Elected President-Elect Designate of American Health Law Association

Baker Donelson is pleased to announce that Shareholder S. Craig Holden has been elected President-Elect Designate of the American Health Law Association (AHLA).

As AHLA president, Mr. Holden will play a key role in guiding the Association's educational and public interest efforts when his term as president begins in July, 2020. Mr. Holden served on AHLA's Board of Directors from 2011through 2017 and was chair of the Fraud and Compliance Program from 2005-2010.

Mr. Holden focuses his practice on serving clients in all areas of the health care industry, with particular emphasis on advising clients on Medicare and Medicaid fraud and abuse issues, pharmaceutical pricing issues, Medicare and other third-party reimbursement issues, and general compliance matters. He has also represented numerous health care industry clients in government fraud and abuse investigations.

"Craig will do an exceptional job leading the AHLA community and we are incredibly proud to support him in achieving this important role in the health care bar" said Richard G. Cowart, chair of the Firm's Health Law/Government Relations & Public Policy Department and former AHLA president. "His selection as AHLA president is a testament to the sophisticated work he has completed on behalf of his clients, as well as his tireless dedication to the AHLA."

Mr. Holden is a former trial attorney with the Inspector General Division, Office of the General Counsel, Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). He was the Chairman of Ober, Kaler, Grimes and Shriver until its combination with Baker Donelson in 2017. Mr. Holden earned his B.A. from the Catholic University of America and his J.D. from the George Washington University Law School.

Leading health law to excellence through education, information, and dialogue, the American Health Law Association (AHLA) is the nation's largest, nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) educational organization devoted to legal issues in the health care field. With nearly 14,000 members, AHLA represents attorneys and in-house counsel, as well as compliance, finance and privacy officers, health care consultants, regulatory professionals, physicians, nurses, CEOs, public health officials, and others interested in health care legal and regulatory issues.

With more than 200 attorneys in ten states and the District of Columbia serving the health care industry, Baker Donelson has one of the leading health care practices in the United States. Given the vast scope and complexity of the nation's largest industry, our size, scale and collective experience give our clients a competitive advantage. Those clients are hiring a dedicated, multi- disciplinary team, a team that not only has experience in and detailed knowledge of health law, but also understands the complicated ways in which the industry operates.
