The Tennessee legislature's enactment of the "Guns in the Trunk Law" has sparked debate about the legality of employers’ prohibition of employees’ firearms from the premises.  Ultimately, the courts will have to decide the issue.  Until then, employers and their legal counsel should seek a full understanding of the legal framework in which a claim for wrongful discharge would be adjudicated.  Join us for a consideration of the following questions:

  • If we have a statute, why is there still a debate?
  • What are the requirements to get a handgun carry permit?
  • What does a permit allow?
  • What does a permit not allow?
  • How does the Guns in Trunks Law impact the employer-employee relationship?
  • What policies and practices should employers implement to regulate the possession of handguns at work?
  • What must an employee show to prevail on a claim of wrongful discharge?
  • Is there a clear public policy concerning an employees’ possession of guns at work?

Space is limited for this event. Program, breakfast and parking are complimentary.
