Planning for an Active Shooter Within a Health Care Facility [Ober|Kaler]

Webinar

The Ober|Kaler Health Care General Counsel Institute presented this webinar on key considerations in addressing an active shooter situation, including specific concerns within health care facilities. Preparing for such a scenario is part of prudent planning to such an extent that regulatory agencies have begun expecting facilities to have incorporated it into their emergency protocol.

The discussion addressed recent guidance from key agencies including the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Homeland Security, FEMA and the FBI. The program was presented by Emily Wein, an Ober|Kaler Health Law Group attorney who previously served as in-house counsel to a multi-hospital academic health system, and Zach Wein, a Baltimore City SWAT Team officer who has helped coordinate training in hospitals. Emily and Zach shared their relevant experience and knowledge in suggesting practical preparations that could prove invaluable in an emergency situation.
