Among NLJ 350 law firms, 2013 was the year of the "other" attorney. The firms from 2012 to 2013 saw an 8.8 percent overall increase in the other-attorney category, which includes staff attorneys, of counsel and lawyers who aren't partners or associates, and excludes contract attorneys. "That's just where the need is right now," said Mr. Adams.
