Baker Donelson Attorney to Lead National Teleconference on Intellectual Property

(Memphis, TN/March 23, 2009) On April 2, Grady M. Garrison, an intellectual property attorney in the Memphis office of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC, will lead a national teleconference for intellectual property law practitioners. The program, "Understanding Intellectual Property Protections," will address some of the threats posed to intellectual property rights and the methods available to enforce those rights.

According to Mr. Garrison, protection of intellectual property is an issue of growing concern in the current economic downturn. "Because our economy is largely knowledge-based, businesses must protect their intellectual capital and rights. For many companies, intellectual property is key to their ability to maintain or expand their existing market share. Protection of that intellectual property is crucial to the livelihood of many businesses, particularly during a period of economic turbulence."

Specific topics to be covered during the teleconference include:

  • transferring the exclusive rights conferred by IP;
  • intellectual property rights enforcement on-line;
  • IP developments in the music industry;
  • IP in mergers and acquisitions; and
  • international protection of intellectual property.

The program, which is presented by National Business Institute, is approved for 1.5 hours of Continuing Legal Education credit.
