The national law firm of Baker Donelson has added bankruptcy attorney Joseph P. Briggett as shareholder in the Firm's New Orleans office.
Mr. Briggett, who focuses his practice on bankruptcy and workout law, has a diverse commercial practice that spans various areas, including bankruptcy and restructuring, creditors' rights, commercial litigation, transactions, loan documentation, and corporate law. He represents parties in pre-bankruptcy negotiations, state court insolvency proceedings, commercial foreclosures, and adversary proceedings, and he assists clients in resolving debtor/creditor disputes.
Mr. Briggett has significant experience serving maritime bankruptcy clients, having litigated shipping and offshore service insolvency matters in bankruptcy courts across the nation. These cases have involved issues such as maritime liens, personal injury claims, vessel finance, preferred ship mortgages, and other admiralty concerns. In addition to his bankruptcy background, Mr. Briggett has a wealth of litigation experience in federal and state trial courts, with ample first-chair trial experience in breach of contract, property disputes, corporate governance, breach of fiduciary duty, admiralty, and banking law.

He is a graduate of Tulane University Law School and continues to be involved with the school as president of the Tulane Law School American Inn of Court. Mr. Briggett is licensed in Florida and Louisiana.
