Royce B. Badger is an experienced litigator in Baker Donelson's Fort Lauderdale office and a member of the Advocacy Department.

Professional Biography


Mr. Badger focuses his practice in the areas of commercial and business litigation, representing businesses and individuals in a broad range of litigation matters in both state and federal courts.

As a skilled litigator, Mr. Badger has participated in numerous jury trials, including as first chair. His experience includes litigating lawsuits from inception through final resolution, including settlement and mediation. During his legal career, he gained valuable experience as in-house counsel for two large insurance companies, where he defended clients in depositions, drafted and argued substantive motions, handled discovery, and advised on trial strategy, compliance, and company policies.

During law school, Mr. Badger served as a judicial intern for Judges Alice L. Blackwell and Lisa Munyon of the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida.

Mr. Badger is fluent in French and Spanish.

  • First chaired a Broward County jury trial resulting in a full defense verdict for a homeowner's insurance company where the plaintiff was claiming in excess of $245,000 in damages as a result of an alleged plumbing leak.

  • First chaired a Miami-Dade County jury trial to a favorable resolution on behalf of an insurance company resulting in a full defense verdict where the plaintiffs alleged more than $130,000 in damages as a result of Hurricane Irma.

  • First chaired a Broward County jury trial resulting in a full defense verdict for a homeowner's insurance company resulting in a full defense verdict where the plaintiffs were claiming $84,000 in damages as a result of Hurricane Eta.

  • First chaired a Broward County jury trial resulting in a full defense verdict for a homeowner's insurance company where the plaintiffs were claiming more than $175,000 in damages as a result of Hurricane Dorian.

  • Drafted a motion for summary judgment granted by the trial court judge and affirmed by the Third District Court of Appeal based on the judge's finding that the plaintiff could not bring tort litigation where the insured, a plumbing company, was eligible for horizontal workers' compensation immunity pursuant to Florida Statute Section 440.10(1)(e).

  • Drafted a motion for summary judgment granted by the trial court judge based on the court's finding that the plaintiff presented no evidence to demonstrate that his consumption of bottled water purchased from client's store was the proximate cause of his alleged complaints.

  • Drafted a motion for summary judgment granted by the trial court judge and affirmed by the Third District Court of Appeal based on the Court's finding that client's presence as a subcontractor at a pharmacy retail store undergoing construction was not causally related to the plaintiff's alleged injuries.

  • Drafted a motion for summary judgment granted by the trial court judge based on the court's finding that the plaintiff failed to present any evidence supporting the claim that client designed, manufactured, and/or distributed the allegedly defective chair that caused his injuries.

  • Briefed and successfully argued defendant's exceptions to magistrate judge's recommendation to deny a motion to dismiss where the plaintiff failed to show any privity of contract between the plaintiff and the insurer.

  • Drafted an answer brief on behalf of an appellee resulting in the Florida Fourth District Court of Appeals per curiam affirming the lower court's order denying the defendant's motion for transfer of venue.
