Overview

Mr. Ball is a member of the Firm's Business Department, where he primarily focuses on the areas of federal, state and local taxation, general business law and estate planning. 

Mr. Ball routinely advises clients on tax and business matters concerning for-profit entity selection, formation, operations and transition planning – including mergers, acquisitions and other types of transactions. Mr. Ball also assists individual clients with income and estate tax planning, including business succession planning. In addition, Mr. Ball has experience representing clients' interests at the federal, state and local levels through both administrative and judicial proceedings concerning estate, gift, income, employment, use, sales, franchise and property taxes and various other business law and regulatory matters.

  • Represented the interest of a large-scale manufacturer in a stock sale for approximately $400 million to a publicly traded company, as part of which a §338(h)(10) election (an election to treat the transaction as an asset sale for tax purposes) was made.

  • Represented client's interest in the acquisition of a large retail food service franchisee.

  • Secured several favorable installment agreements and tax liability compromises for clients with significant federal and state tax liabilities.

  • Advised numerous high net worth clients on estate and business succession planning, which generally includes the development of structured plans for efficiently gifting business and non-business property to second and third generations.

  • Secured favorable state letter ruling for client related to the non-taxation of specified retirement products.
