Baker Donelson and UT Medical Center Cancer Institute Host Third Annual Comedy for a Cause

(Knoxville, TN / September 22, 2016) For the third consecutive year, Baker Donelson's Women's Initiative partnered with The University of Tennessee Medical Center as the founding sponsor to host the annual Comedy for a Cause event benefiting gynecologic cancer patient needs, gynecologic cancer awareness and education at The University of Tennessee Medical Center Cancer Institute.

This year's Comedy for a Cause, which took place on September 15, raised more than $13,700 for the medical center's Gynecologic Cancers Education and Research Funds through sponsorships, ticket sales and a silent auction of items donated by local businesses. The nearly 220 attendees enjoyed a show by comedienne Leanne Morgan, who has appeared on TV shows such as "The View" and Nick at Nite's "Funniest Mom." LeAnn Mynatt, a shareholder in Baker Donelson's Knoxville office and an ovarian cancer survivor, along with Dr. Larry Kilgore and Dr. Kristopher Kimball, gynecologic oncologists from The University of Tennessee Medical Center's Cancer Institute, also addressed the crowd, discussing the three main types of gynecologic cancers and their warning signs.

"Baker Donelson's Women's Initiative is exceptionally proud of how Comedy for a Cause continues to raise awareness about gynecologic cancer as well as funds to help support the efforts of The University of Tennessee Medical Center's Cancer Institute," said Ms. Mynatt. "With more than $28,400 raised through this event over the past three years, we're thrilled to have the opportunity to make a difference in the fight against gynecologic cancer."
