For 25 years, Robert Wells, a shareholder with Baker Donelson in Baltimore, has helped health care companies in Maryland and across the country achieve their business and strategic objectives while complying with complex health care laws and regulations.

While his legal work is significant, Wells said his work to mentor and help develop young attorneys is the most satisfying. He recalled meeting with a young attorney recently who questioned their ability to thrive at a large, competing firm and advising the attorney on ways to enhance their satisfaction; several years later the attorney remains with the firm and is thriving.

“I hope my efforts mentoring other attorneys has contributed significantly to the legal profession by developing lawyers who care deeply about serving their clients and the community as a whole through their work,” Wells said. “I’m hopeful that these efforts are realized in the way they practice law; how they treat all others that are involved in our legal work and how they then pass on positive traits and approaches to others to ‘pay it forward.’”

Over his career, Wells has served on several boards and currently serves as chair of the governance committee on the board of TEDCO,  a nonprofit which offers funding and support for startups small businesses and tech transfer in Maryland. He has also served several terms on the board of trustees for the Indian Creek School in Crownsville and on the board of governors for West Virginia University.

Wells, who is a lifetime member of the American Health Lawyers Association, said he hopes his work on behalf of clients has helped ensure that patients receive quality health care, a goal he thinks everyone in the health care industry should have.

Wells previously worked as a partner at Miles & Stockbridge and general counsel at Integra Connect LLC and Flatiron Health. He also coached youth league sports in Anne Arundel County for several years.
