As a former senior White House advisor to two Presidents, Mr. Leggitt is a seasoned strategic policy advisor with more than 25 years of experience in federal and state government affairs. His practice includes a broad range of federal and state domestic policy issues including health care, transportation, education, labor, small business, homeland security, and veterans' affairs.
Mr. Leggitt recently departed the Trump Administration where he served as Deputy Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy. In this role, Mr. Leggitt advised President Trump on development and implementation of regulatory and legislative strategies covering more than ten cabinet secretaries and agencies including the Departments of Health and Human Services, Transportation, Labor, Education, Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, and the Small Business Administration. Mr. Leggitt regularly engaged these and other federal agencies as a part of his policy development and implementation responsibilities. He also worked closely with White House Legislative Affairs staff to develop strategies for advancing the Administration's policies in Congress.
From 2017 to 2018, Mr. Leggitt served as Chief of Staff for the Secretary of U.S. Department of Health (HHS). As the HHS Chief of Staff, Mr. Leggitt had extensive management and policy oversight of all HHS agencies, including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Food & Drug Administration, National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Indian Health Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
Mr. Leggitt has also served as a senior White House advisor to President George W. Bush, a senior policy advisor and special counselor to the Governor of Virginia, and as an assistant attorney general in the Virginia Attorney General's Office.
