Professional Biography


Julie Schiff maintains a broad litigation practice in both state and federal court. She has significant experience representing businesses and national financial institutions in a wide variety of cases, including breach-of-contract actions, business torts, and lender liability/consumer financial litigation.

Julie also has experience in trust and estate and health care matters and regularly counsels clients in trademark and copyright disputes.

  • Obtained summary judgment in favor of a city board of education in a § 1983 action alleging violation of a student's equal protection and substantive due process rights.

  • Represented and helped secure a favorable settlement for 11 individual and corporate litigants in a multimillion-dollar shareholder derivative suit involving 15 causes of action.

  • Secured a temporary restraining order against a former employee and competitor of a large lumber and woodworking distributor after the former employee began working for the distributor's competitor in violation of a non-competition agreement.

  • Successfully opposed the registration of a trademark application filed by a global provider of dataloggers and data acquisition systems, resulting in the United States Patent and Trademark Office's rejection of the application.

  • Successfully opposed the entry of an order terminating a multimillion-dollar testamentary trust, resulting in the order being set aside on jurisdictional grounds, and later secured dismissal of the claim to terminate the trust on substantive grounds when it was re-filed in the proper court.

  • Represented a pro bono client at re-sentencing, resulting in the reduction of the client's sentence from life in prison without the possibility of parole to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

  • Obtained summary judgment in favor of a commercial advertising production studio in a case filed by the Alabama Department of Revenue, resulting in the Alabama Department of Revenue's Final Assessment of sales taxes and penalties against the studio being dropped.
