Professional Biography

Mr. Schaffner advises clients on national security policy in both the public and private sectors. His knowledge of the legislative process allows him to develop and execute successful strategies for client advocacy.

Serving in Congress during a period of intense debate on the defense budget, Mr. Schaffner worked closely for years with both professional staff on Capitol Hill and colleagues at the Department of Defense on key issues including force restructuring, procurement and other DOD priorities. Prior to joining Baker Donelson, Mr. Schaffner worked as the senior legislative assistant to House Armed Services Committee Member and Congresswoman Kathy Hochul. He also served as the military legislative assistant and appropriations director for Congressman Dan Maffei.
