Baker Donelson's Christian Schütz Named Honorary Consul of Germany in Tennessee

The President of the Federal Republic of Germany has appointed Christian Schütz of the law firm Baker Donelson Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany in Tennessee. The German Consul General in Atlanta, Dr. Heike Fuller, inaugurated Mr. Schütz in his Honorary Office on January 13, 2021.

"I am very grateful to have Christian Schütz, a highly esteemed colleague of Baker Donelson, as German Honorary Consul for Tennessee. The German Honorary Consul in Tennessee dates back to the 1950s and demonstrates the close and trustful bonds of the government and peoples of Germany and Tennessee. Christian succeeds Doug Berry as German Honorary Consul in Nashville. I look forward to continuing the close and fruitful cooperation between the Consulate General in Atlanta and the German Honorary Consul in Nashville. I wish Christian every success for his Honorary Office," said Dr. Fuller.

The jurisdiction of the German Consulate General in Atlanta includes Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Within the jurisdiction of the German Consulate in Atlanta, seven German Honorary Consuls are engaged in dedicated service.

As Honorary Consul, Mr. Schütz will support Germany's diplomatic and consular mission and help promote bilateral relations in the areas of culture and foreign trade between Germany and Tennessee.

An attorney in the Nashville office of Baker Donelson, Mr. Schütz is a member of the Firm's Global Business Group and focuses his practice in the areas of real estate and finance and economic development. As a native German with a German law degree, he has particular experience serving the needs of German clients investing in the U.S. and U.S. clients conducting business in Germany and the European Union. He assists and advises German and other international public and private entities and individuals in areas including cross-border transactions, foreign direct investment, international trade and market entry, commercial and corporate law, acquisition of businesses, and entity formation. His experience includes complex commercial real estate transactions throughout the U.S., including acquisitions and dispositions, greenfield and brownfield development, financing, construction and leasing of investment grade properties, manufacturing plants, apartment and land investments, economic incentive transactions, and zoning and land use law.

Mr. Schütz is a member of the German American Lawyers' Association as well as the American, Tennessee and Nashville Bar Associations. He is also member of the Tennessee chapter of the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Southern U.S.
