The main focus of Sye T. Hickey's practice is on complex business litigation for the financial services industry. Mr. Hickey has experience representing banks, creditors, lenders, and various financial institutions in an array of matters, including broker-dealer litigation, business tort litigation, class action defense, consumer finance litigation (FDCPA), consumer protection litigation (state consumer protection and TCPA), and securities litigation. He has represented local, state, and national clients at the trial and appellate levels, including matters in state and federal court and arbitration panels under AAA, JAMS, and FINRA.
The remainder of Mr. Hickey's practice covers contract litigation, government and internal investigations, insurance matters, and product liability disputes. He has worked with clients in the automotive, commercial real estate, government contracting, health care, hospitality, housing, manufacturing, and pharmaceutical industries, among others.
Mr. Hickey serves as a member of the firm-wide diversity committee and the Nashville office recruitment committee. Prior to joining Baker Donelson, Mr. Hickey worked as an associate attorney in a large regional firm in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he mostly handled complex business litigation and government and internal investigations.
While attending the University of Tennessee College of Law, Mr. Hickey served as a prosecutorial extern with the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Tennessee. As a third year law student, he successfully argued the first application of the U.S.S.G. § 2D1.1(b)(12) enhancement in the Eastern District of Tennessee and prevailed on a mandatory minimum sentencing argument to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Before attending law school, Mr. Hickey served as an intern for the late United States Senator Jim Bunning (R-KY) in Washington, D.C.
