The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010, representing the most significant overhaul of the U.S. health care system in almost half a century. In this Memphis Business Journal article, Phil McSween comments on the enormous impact the ACA is having on the legal industry as professional services firms continue to help organizations navigate through the regulatory morass created by the sheer complexity and changing nature of the law.

"We have definitely seen an uptick on both the transaction side and network-building side," Mr. McSween says. "In states like Tennessee where no Medicaid expansion has happened, the concern from providers is whether they are going to receive less [in government reimbursements and from insurance companies] going forward."
