Patricia McMurray concentrates her practice in the areas of commercial transactions, forestry, real estate and education law.

Professional Biography


Patty is part of the Firm's Real Estate Group. Patty focuses her practice on all types of commercial transactions, forestry and real estate. She also has served as counsel for many public charter schools, private schools and other education support corporations. Patty is also an experienced litigator in the bankruptcy, creditors' rights and general commercial areas. She has worked with many clients on work-outs of loans or other financial transactions.

Patty has worked with many charter schools on education issues and has been instrumental in the developing area of charter school law. Her other significant contributions include:

  • Assisting with the opening and operation of many charter schools in Louisiana as additional avenues to improve public education for the state;
  • Assisting in the sale and purchase of millions of acres of timber holdings and in the sale and purchase of commercial real estate;
  • Assisting in drafting Louisiana's statewide purchase agreement form for residential real property. This form is required by law to be used by real estate licensees. Patty has also written handbooks on purchase agreements and has given many seminars on real estate topics; and
  • Serving as a speaker for the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, Louisiana Association for Public Charter Schools, Louisiana REALTORS, Louisiana State University Law School, the National Business Institute, the Louisiana Real Estate Commission and the Louisiana State Bar Association.

Patty is listed in The Best Lawyers in America® in the areas of Banking and Finance, Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law, and Financial Services Regulation Law, and is also listed in Louisiana Super Lawyers.
