(New Orleans, LA/August 19, 2008) Nancy Scott Degan, of the law firm Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC, has been appointed Managing Director of the American Bar Association's (ABA) Section of Litigation.
As the Managing Director, Ms. Degan will be responsible for all facets of the Section's work, including publications and continuing legal education events it offers to its 76,632 members in all 50 states and 33 countries. Ms. Degan will also help implement the initiatives of the Section on such issues as assuring access to justice where basic human rights are threatened. She will serve for a term of one year. Ms. Degan has previously served in various other positions for the ABA's Section of Litigation, including co-chair of the Membership Committee, Division Director and co-chair of the Business Torts Committee.
Ms. Degan is a shareholder in the New Orleans office of Baker Donelson and is the leader of the Firm's Business Litigation Practice Group. She concentrates her practice in representing clients in various business disputes, including those concerning oil and gas interests, shareholder actions and other securities litigation and various business torts. Ms. Degan has been annually listed in The Best Lawyers in America® (Copyright 2007 by Woodward/White, Inc., of Aiken S.C.) in the areas of Business Litigation since 2003 and Alternative Dispute Resolution since 2005. She has also been recognized by Louisiana Super Lawyers as among the top 25 female attorneys in Louisiana and as a "Leader in Law" by New Orleans CityBusiness.
