Karen D. Smith Appointed to Council for Women and the Law Section of Texas State Bar

(Houston, TX / February 4, 2016) Baker Donelson is pleased to announce that Karen D. Smith has been appointed to a two-year term on the Council for the Women and the Law Section of the State Bar of Texas.

The State Bar of Texas Women and the Law Section encourages and facilitates the active and effective participation of women in the legal profession and in the community, and also addresses the needs of women and the issues impacting them.

A litigation shareholder in Baker Donelson's Houston office, Ms. Smith has extensive experience in the areas of complex commercial litigation, including contract disputes, trade secrets, commercial real estate and construction matters. She has handled cases throughout the state of Texas and taken numerous cases to trial in state and federal court.

Ms. Smith has been recognized as a "Top Lawyer" in H Texas Magazine in the area of Commercial Litigation and is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. She previously served on the Women in the Profession Committee and for the Texas Lawyers Assistance Program for the State Bar of Texas. An advocate for women in the legal industry, Ms. Smith has served on the Board of Directors and as President for both Texas Women Lawyers and the Executive Women's Alliance. She has also served on the Board of Directors and as Board Chair of the Association of Women Attorneys and has been an active member of the Women's Energy Network. Additionally, Ms. Smith is a member of the American, Houston, The Woodlands and Montgomery County Bar Associations.
