A federal lawsuit filed in Nashville recently accuses a private probation company in Rutherford County of extorting low-income and disabled people for the company's – and county's – financial gain. The class-action civil rights lawsuit was filed by the legal advocacy group Equal Justice Under Law and Baker Donelson. In this interview with WSMV, Jonathan Cole, who is representing the plaintiffs, comments on the lawsuit.
"I can't believe that a situation like this can still happen in 2015. I mean, you read about it in the history books, that somebody, just because they can't pay, they're put in prison," said Mr. Cole.
