Former Congresswoman, Under Secretary of State Ellen O. Tauscher Joins Baker Donelson

(Washington, D.C./August 21, 2012)  Ellen O'Kane Tauscher, a former seven-term member of Congress from California and key advisor to President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary R. Clinton, is joining Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC, as a member of the Firm's Federal Public Policy Group.

"Her experience will provide our clients with the strategic advice they need for effective policy-driven decision-making of federal policy and programs in these areas. Ms. Tauscher, who joins the Firm as strategic advisor, served as Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Affairs and as Special Envoy for Strategic Stability and Missile Defense at the State Department under President Obama. She was a member of the United States House of Representatives, representing California's 10th congressional district from 1997 until her resignation in 2009 upon joining the State Department. While in Congress, she served on the House Armed Services Committee and was Chairman of the Strategic Forces subcommittee. Ms. Tauscher served concurrently on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and was the senior Californian on the Highway and Transit and Aviation subcommittees.  A pro-business and pro-trade Democrat, she was the Chairman of the New Democrat Coalition and Vice-Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council.

In 1977, Ms. Tauscher was one of the first women to become a member of the New York Stock Exchange. She also served as an officer of the American Stock Exchange from 1979 to 1983.
