(Baton Rouge, LA/March 13, 2012) Errol J. King Jr., of the law firm Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC, has been named general counsel of the American Association of Preferred Provider Organizations (AAPPO), the leading national association of preferred provider organizations (PPOs) and affiliate organizations.
As general counsel of the AAPPO, Mr. King will provide advice and guidance to the organization and its members on issues surrounding the PPO industry, including regulatory and business matters. He will also provide advice to AAPPO's subsidiary organization, the National Association of Specialty Health Organizations (NASHO). As general counsel, Mr. King will work closely with AAPPO's Executive Committee and Board of Directors as an adjunct member.
Mr. King, a shareholder in Baker Donelson's Baton Rouge office, focuses his practice primarily in the representation of managed care organizations. In April 1996, he was appointed by the Louisiana Commissioner of Insurance to serve as general counsel and an initial member of the Louisiana Managed Care Advisory Board, which advises the commissioner on managed care issues impacting the state. He previously served as vice chair of the HMOs and Health Plans Substantive Law Committee of the American Health Lawyers Association.
A member of the Federation of Regulatory Counsel and active in the leadership of the Louisiana Association of Health Plans, Mr. King holds an AV® Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell and has been named to Louisiana Super Lawyers in health care law. He has been recognized as a leading health care law attorney by The Best Lawyers in America® since 1995 and was named by Best Lawyers as the 2012 Baton Rouge Insurance Law Lawyer of the Year. Mr. King is a graduate of the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University.
