Ellen Tauscher Discusses Alliance for Bangladesh Safety's First Annual Progress Report

Share

The Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety recently released its first annual progress report announcing it has completed inspections of all 587 factories from which its Members source, provided basic fire safety training to more than one million workers and managers and begun offering financial compensation--recently extended from two to up to four months--to workers displaced as factories undergo necessary repairs. In this Yahoo Finance article, the Honorable Ellen O. Tauscher, independent chair of the Alliance, comments on the progress of this movement.

"Together, the Alliance and our partners are steadily achieving progress that will have a lasting, positive impact on factory workers, the ready-made garment industry and the country's economy as a whole," said Ms. Tauscher. "Much work remains to be done, but we are steadfastly committed to staying the course, working in partnership, ensuring transparency and helping achieve a new, sustainable standard for safe workplaces in Bangladesh."
