The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act has extended generous incentives to eligible physicians in independent practices and hospitals since 2009. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services auditors started looking into program operations last fall to determine if participants are meeting certain benchmarks and complying with guidelines. "The most important thing is prevention, prevention, prevention," Ms. Trostorff said. "You're going to want to know what's required, and you're going to want to set up tools to self-check and ensure you’re meeting these requirements."
