Baker Donelson to Host Program on International Information Sharing

Share

(Memphis, TN/September 25, 2008) On October 10, the law firm of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC, will host a program titled "Impact of International Information Sharing." The program, which is being sponsored by the Tennessee Bar Association, will feature William F. Baity, Deputy Director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).

Mr. Baity works with the world's law enforcement, financial and regulatory communities to ensure the effective coordination of anti-money laundering initiatives in the effort to track criminals, their activities and their assets. FinCEN's stated mission is to enhance U.S. national security, deter and detect criminal activity, and safeguard financial systems from abuse by promoting transparency in the U.S. and international financial systems. FinCEN's Office of International Programs aims to establish and strengthen mechanisms for the global exchange of information, and to engage, encourage and support international partners in taking necessary steps to construct regimes to combat money laundering, terrorist financing and other financial crimes.

"U.S. and international governments have created laws and regulations to guard against illegal activity in international currency transactions," said Mark Glover, managing shareholder of Baker Donelson's Memphis office. "Businesses need to be aware of these laws and regulations when involved in currency transactions in the U.S. and abroad."

The program will be held at the First Tennessee building at 165 Madison Avenue on the M-level from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Seating for this complimentary lunch and program is very limited. For more information, contact Esther Stone at 901.577.8125 or estone@bakerdonelson.com.

With more than 10,000 members, the Tennessee Bar Association (TBA) is the largest professional association in Tennessee. Founded in 1881, the TBA provides opportunities for continuing legal education, professional development and public service. The TBA's dedication to serving the state's legal community is evidenced by its membership roll, which represents the entire spectrum of legal practice: plaintiff and defense lawyers, corporate counsel, judges, prosecutors, public defenders, government lawyers and legal services attorneys.
