As promised, Phase 2 of the HIPAA audits have finally arrived. The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has started the process to audit health care providers, hospitals and employer sponsored group health plans, as well as their business associates, to measure their compliance with the HIPAA Privacy Rule, Security Rule and breach notification requirements. As OCR conducts more targeted compliance reviews and audits, it is imperative that HIPAA covered entities and business associates take the steps to prepare and know what to expect in the course of the audits.

Ober|Kaler and CynergisTek presented this webinar featuring Jim Wieland of Ober|Kaler’s Health Care Information Privacy, Security and Technology Practice; Emily Wein of Ober|Kaler's Health Law Group; and David Holtzman, VP of Compliance for CynergisTek and former Senior Advisor at OCR. Jim, Emily and David reviewed the Phase 2 OCR HIPAA Audit Process, introduced the new audit protocol, explained the steps organizations can take to prepare, and shared lessons learned from previous audits.
