Steve's experience reflects a deep bench across business litigation, employment disputes, injunctions, and internal investigations. In complex partnership and business disputes, he regularly tries cases involving allegations of breach of contract, fiduciary duty, fraud, and misconduct, including securing favorable verdicts for investors in LIHTC partnerships and defending high-exposure claims such as RICO actions seeking hundreds of millions of dollars in damages. His practice also includes representing professional services firms and corporate clients in sensitive, reputationally significant matters, including sanctions-related proceedings and fee disputes tried to judgment.
His litigation experience includes representing investors, syndicators, and managers of investor limited partner or member interests (directly, but also through middle and upper tier funds) in Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) properties throughout the country. He works with clients from pre-suit negotiation through litigation and trial, if necessary. He also frequently writes and speaks about LIHTC-related topics.
In the employment context, Steve leads nationwide and multi-state litigation involving wage and hour claims, including collective and class actions under the Fair Labor Standards Act, as well as executive separations, whistleblower allegations, and enforcement of restrictive covenants. He pairs this experience with a robust injunction practice, obtaining and defending emergency relief in matters involving trade secrets, non-compete agreements, and breaches of contract—including coordinating multi-jurisdictional enforcement actions such as asset seizures and recovery of confidential business information.
Steve also advises clients on internal investigations involving employees at all levels, addressing issues ranging from workplace misconduct and harassment to alleged fraud, regulatory violations, and other sensitive matters. His work frequently intersects with complex regulatory frameworks, including matters involving federal agencies and industry-specific compliance concerns.
He formerly served on Baker Donelson's Board of Directors, and he was a member of the Firm's Audit and Finance Committee.
