Raymond F. Sullivan Jr. Joins Baker Donelson

(Washington, D.C./December 3, 2008)  Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC today announced that Raymond F. Sullivan, Jr. has joined the Firm’s Washington, D.C. office as a shareholder focusing on international trade and customs, and export control matters.

Mr. Sullivan has more than thirty years of experience in customs law, international trade regulation, and export control law. As the former Head of the Global Customs Practice at White & Case LLP, Mr. Sullivan developed a sophisticated, full-service customs practice involving all aspects of importing, including the establishment of foreign trade zone operations for foreign-based companies establishing U.S. facilities; and assisting multinational clients in all aspects of multiple cross border transactions and import/export compliance.

He regularly represents clients in pre-audit reviews, audits, and compliance assessments and investigations by Customs and Border Protection; and has worked extensively with clients in the export control area. Mr. Sullivan has created and implemented import and export compliance plans, and has counseled clients in OFAC licensing and enforcement actions.

In joining Doreen Edelman in our Washington office and our other international attorneys and advisors, we will offer clients an experienced team with the depth to provide counsel on a wide variety of import/export and other international issues.”

Prior to his positions in private practice, Mr. Sullivan worked as a Special Agent and Import Specialist for the U.S. Customs Service, where he participated in commercial fraud investigations of importers, both civil and criminal, as well as interfaces with the U.S. Attorney’s Office. He is a member of the American Bar Association’s Section on International Law, and was formerly the Chairman of the Maryland State Bar Association’s Section on International Commercial Law.

Mr. Sullivan is a cum laude graduate from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and received his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law. He is a member of the Washington D.C., New York and Maryland bars.
