(Nashville, TN / July 17, 2014) Matt Sweeney of Baker Donelson has been named chair-elect of the Board of Trustees for The National Judicial College (NJC). Mr. Sweeney will serve a one-year term as chair-elect before assuming the role of chair in June 2015.

The first to offer programs to judges nationwide, the NJC continues to work with the judiciary to improve productivity, challenge current perceptions of justice and inspire judges to achieve judicial excellence.
A former Davidson County, Tennessee, Circuit Court Judge, Mr. Sweeney is a shareholder in Baker Donelson's Nashville office, where he is a business trial and appellate lawyer, mediator and arbitrator. He has a background in white collar criminal defense and has broad experience in complex class action and shareholder derivative litigation in state and federal courts throughout the United States. His litigation practice is primarily focused in franchising/dealership, securities, fiduciary duty, fraud, consumer protection and municipal employee pension/benefits cases.
Mr. Sweeney is an approved mediator of the Tennessee Commission on Alternative Dispute Resolution, and is a member of the Tennessee Academy of Mediators & Arbitrators, the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals and the American Arbitration Association, Mediation, Judicial Settlement Conference, and Arbitration Panels.
