(New Orleans, LA / April 11, 2016) Jan M. Hayden of Baker Donelson has been named a recipient of The Center for American and International Law's (CAIL) Michelle Mendez Serviam Award.
The award, presented in conjunction with CAIL's Fifth Circuit Bankruptcy Bench/Bar Conference, recognizes bankruptcy professionals in the Fifth Circuit who have demonstrated persistently exceptional contributions to others in the bankruptcy profession and community through leadership, pro bono work, bar activities, community activities or other criteria that demonstrate extraordinary service to others. Ms. Hayden was the 2016 Louisiana award recipient honored at the awards luncheon, featuring Chief Judge Carl E. Stewart of the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals as the speaker.
Ms. Hayden is a shareholder in Baker Donelson's New Orleans office and a member of the Financial Services Department. She concentrates her practice on assisting clients with restructuring and creditors' rights both in and out of bankruptcy proceedings, and she has represented creditors and debtors in mass tort bankruptcies. A Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy and of the American Bar Foundation, Ms. Hayden has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 1993 and in Chambers USA: America's Leading Business Lawyers since 2010. Louisiana Super Lawyers has listed Ms. Hayden among the top ten attorneys and top 25 female attorneys in the state of Louisiana. She has also been recognized as "Woman of the Year" by New Orleans City Business and was honored with the "Leadership in Law" award by the publication. Ms. Hayden serves as Chairperson for the Louisiana State Bar Bankruptcy Section and is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute as well as a board member for the New Orleans Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association.
About the Michelle Mendez Serviam Award
The Michelle Mendez Serviam Award was created in 2015 in recognition of the life and work of Michelle Mendez. Her extraordinary contribution to the Fifth Circuit Bench and Bar was but one of the many selfless contributions she made in her lifetime for the benefit of fellow bankruptcy professionals. Mendez passed away in 2014 following complications from a sudden illness.
