Professional Biography


A former patent examiner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and chemical engineer by training, Emily Billig has experience across all stages of patent prosecution. Ms. Billig's clients include entrepreneurs and visionaries in the software, chemical and mechanical fields, and she has assisted them in obtaining patents in a broad range of subject areas.

Ms. Billig takes a comprehensive and tailored approach to helping clients obtain the strongest and best protection across their entire intellectual property portfolio, including domestic and foreign patents and trademarks. She advises her clients on strategic marketing, brand management and targeted filings on a global basis, and represents them through all stages of trademark clearance, prosecution, licensing, and enforcement.

  • Negotiated a favorable settlement for a national client in a trademark litigation matter involving claims under the Lanham Act, the Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act, and state unfair competition laws.

  • Manages large international patent and trademark portfolios for multiple clients.

  • Negotiated a favorable settlement for an international mining and mineral processing company in a patent infringement lawsuit.

  • Manages trademark licensing for a national non-profit organization.

  • Represented an international manufacturer of sound recording equipment with enforcement of trademark and trade dress rights for products, successfully negotiating a settlement including name change and domain transfer requirements against a competitor.

  • Successfully prosecuted a dispute under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy for a well-known international non-profit organization.

  • Advised a client in intellectual property protection for a large-scale, mobile art installation.

  • Represented the inventor of a clay pigment additive in a hearing to reconsider a European patent examiner's rejection of the patent claims, resulting in an agreement for the allowance of the claims.
