Christopher M. Caputo Appointed Local Representative of American Chamber of Commerce in Italy Throughout the Southeast

(Nashville, TN / July 13, 2015) Christopher M. Caputo of Baker Donelson has been appointed by the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy as the organization's local representative in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Tennessee.

As the local representative in these states, Mr. Caputo will work to promote commerce between Italian businesses and businesses in the southeastern United States. One of his principal functions will be to assist Italian businesses in potential investments and strategic partnerships within the region. Mr. Caputo will serve in this role for a two-year term subject to further renewal.

According to Mr. Caputo, "Italians create products that are commonly envied, often imitated, but never replicated.  Italian businesses increasingly understand that by expanding their manufacturing operation to the United States, they can more efficiently reach lucrative American markets.  By locating in the Southeast, an Italian company can avail itself of lower energy costs, convenient distribution infrastructure and state governments that understand how to compete for foreign direct investment. I look forward to creating and supporting opportunities for Italian companies to do business in the region."

A shareholder in Baker Donelson's Memphis and Nashville offices, Mr. Caputo represents Italian and other multinational corporations in the establishment and operation of their businesses in the Southeast. In this practice, Mr. Caputo assists Italian and other foreign clients in all areas relevant to the commencement and operation of a business in the United States. He provides counsel on corporate matters, mergers, acquisitions and transactional due diligence, immigration, labor and employment issues, commercial contracts, import/export issues, and in the financing, construction and development of corporate headquarters and manufacturing facilities, including the coordination of public incentives associated with capital investment. He is the author of "Constructing a Facility in the United States: Cosa Si Deve Sapere Prima." Mr. Caputo also practices construction law and litigation and leads the Firm's Tennessee construction practice.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Italy (AmCham) is a private, non-profit organization that focuses on promoting the development of economic and cultural relations between Italy and the United States. It is affiliated with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington D.C., and is a founding member of the European Council of American Chambers of Commerce. Headquartered in Milan, Italy, AmCham's presence extends throughout the major Italian and American regions by means of a network of local representatives.
