Ashley Tullos Young practices in the Government Regulatory Actions practice group and concentrates her practice in state and federal criminal matters and commercial and government-related litigation. Ms. Young focuses on §1983 actions, government investigations, commercial and government-related contract disputes, and class actions. Ms. Young also has experience in representing individuals and corporations faced with felony and misdemeanor crimes in state and federal court.

Representative Matters

  • Represented clients in a variety of criminal matters in federal and state court, including drug and firearm possession, sex crimes, property crimes and vehicular homicide.
  • Represented employers faced with immigration enforcement investigations and employer charged with felony immigration violations.
  • Retained by national banking and financial services company to assist with internal investigation of a borrower real estate development company; uncovered widespread instances of mortgage fraud and insurance fraud for report to authorities.
  • Successfully defended an election contest brought against state official, which included emergency writ to Mississippi Supreme Court and culminated in trial verdict in favor of client.
  • Represented international, publicly-traded company in minority v. majority shareholder dispute that ended with successful mediation.
  • Represented large nursing home client in wrongful death action and was able to successfully compel arbitration and circumvent jury trial in precarious venue.
  • Actively representing airport police department in §1983 actions based on allegations of false arrest, excessive force, and malicious prosecution.
  • Represented software company in breach of contract dispute with state agency, including resolution of intellectual property issues arising from contract.
  • For more than four years, defended a state agency in a complex class action suit alleging constitutional violations of foster children brought on behalf of over 3,300 foster children plaintiffs. In this matter, Ms. Young supervised more than half a million pages of discovery and wrote numerous motions involving complex constitutional issues, including state's rights, abstention, standing and 11th amendment issues. Ms. Young also spearheaded, drafted and negotiated a comprehensive remedial settlement agreement that was approved by a federal court and negotiated the successful settlement of plaintiffs' attorneys' fees. Prior to the case being successfully mediated, Ms. Young participated in extensive trial preparation work involving numerous expert depositions and numerous fact witnesses interviews and preparation. The case is currently in the remedial phase and Ms. Young remains active in the matter by working with the federal monitor and assisting the state agency in interpreting and complying with the requirements of the comprehensive remedial settlement and yearly implementation plans.
