Among NLJ 350 law firms, 2013 was the year of the "other" attorney. The firms from 2012 to 2013 saw an 8.8 percent overall increase in the other-attorney category, which includes staff attorneys, of counsel and lawyers who aren't partners or associates, and excludes contract attorneys. In this National Law Journal article, Ben Adams notes that Baker Donelson's clients want lower-priced attorneys to assist them with their labor and employment, medical malpractice and transportation matters.
"That's just where the need is right now," said Mr. Adams.
